A songwriting fountain stopped flowing last March when cancer claimed David Egan. Eganís compositions helped Irma Thomas, the Soul Queen of New Orleans, win the first Grammy in her 50 years in music.
Marc Broussard, Joe Cocker, Percy Sledge, Etta James, Solomon Burke and John Mayall are on the short list of other artists who have recorded Eganís creations. Musicians will gather in March for a tour that will honor his artistry throughout Louisiana.

"David was simply one of the best songwriters of our time, and he was also such a sweet and thoughtful soul,Ē said tour co-producer Todd Mouton. "Artists from all over are coming together to create some of the most special shows anyone has ever seen, and that's such a great tribute to the man and his legacy."

Tickets are on sale now for "Sing It! The David Egan Songbook,Ē a traveling show that kicks off at March 23-24 at Vermilionville. The tour stops in New Orleans March 25 at Tipitina's, before closing March 26 at the Margaritaville Casinoís Paradise Theater in Bossier City.

Marcia Ball, C.C. Adcock, Roddie Romero, David Torkanowsky, Kristin Diable, Buddy Flett, Kevin Gordon and Steve Riley are among the performers. Special guests will join the show each night.

Proceeds from the tour benefit the David Egan Dreamer Fund at the Community Foundation of Acadiana. Musicians for Smoke-Free Louisiana, Healthier Air for All and the Louisiana Cultural Economy Foundation are among the supporters of the tour.

This is not goodbye for songwriter David Egan

"Advocacy for smoke-free venues, funding for the David Egan Dreamer Fund at Community Foundation of Acadiana, and even the celebration of David Egan Day in Lafayette (March 20) will be part of this mini-tour,Ē said Mouton. "But none of this would be happening without the words, music and friendships he brought to life.
"Songs like 'Dreamer,' 'Sing It!,' and so many more are part of the world's songbook, and we're really excited about the touring ensemble, as well as the many special guests who'll join us each night to add new chapters to this rich story. From the beautiful Trent Oubre tour poster to the generosity of the host committees in the cities we'll visit, this project defines community."

Mouton, C.C. Adcock and Rhonda Egan, Davidís widow, are producers of the show. Tickets, which includes reserved tables, are available online at DavidEganSongs.com.
