St. Mary Parish Foundation Recognizes Sylvia and Fulton C. "Butch” Felterman, Jr. as Leaders In Philanthropy

(Patterson, LA) – The St. Mary Parish Foundation (SMPF), an affiliate of Community Foundation of Acadiana, recently recognized Sylvia and Fulton C. "Butch” Felterman, Jr. as St. Mary Parish’s 2015 Leaders In Philanthropy Award recipients at a reception at the Wedell-Williams Aviation and Cypress Sawmill Museum.

Butch and Sylvia will receive the Leaders In Philanthropy Award at Community Foundation of Acadiana’s (CFA) annual event this November. CFA awards a Leaders In Philanthropy Award to an individual or couple in each of the eight parishes of its primary service area for making a philanthropic impact in their communities through substantial charitable contributions. Butch and Sylvia are being recognized for their outstanding philanthropy to St. Mary Parish which includes being instrumental in the creation, development and construction of the Wedell-Williams Memorial Aviation Museum.

At the reception, Butch and Sylvia were presented with proclamations from Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne’s office and City of Patterson Mayor Rodney A. Grogan recognizing them for their outstanding commitment to the community.

Greg Hamer, SMPF board chair, said, "The St. Mary Parish Foundation is honored to recognize Butch and Sylvia Felterman for all that they do for our parish. Their philanthropy is memorialized at the Wedell-Williams Aviation Museum for generations to come.”

Butch and Sylvia restored "The Old Warehouse”, the oldest commercial building in Patterson located on the banks of the Lower Atchafalaya River, and they built a lighthouse replica to scale called "Fishermen’s Light”. This lighthouse preserves the legacy, physical artifacts and memorabilia of the hard-working fishermen from Patterson’s 51-year shrimping industry.

All past recipients of the Leaders In Philanthropy Awards for St. Mary Parish were in attendance: Johnny and Mary Lou Conrad (2014); Dr. Thomas F. and Mrs. Glenna G. Kramer (2013); R.E. "Bob” Miller (2012); Gregory J. Hamer, Sr. (2011).

The St. Mary Parish Foundation is an affiliate of Community Foundation of Acadiana and has a separate board of directors, specifically for the benefit of St. Mary Parish.
