St. Mary Parish Foundation Awards Over $15,000 in Competitive Grant Cycle - 6/8/2015 -








(Morgan City, LA) – The St. Mary Parish Foundation (SMPF), an affiliate of Community Foundation of Acadiana, recently awarded $15,700 to schools and nonprofit organizations in St. Mary Parish through a competitive grant cycle.

The following schools received an award:

· Central Catholic High School for scientific modules for eighth graders

· Chez Hope for school programs covering bullying and dating violence

· City Court of Morgan City Juvenile Services Division for equipment for a youth center

· Hattie Watts Elementary for The Leader In Me program

· Holy Cross Elementary for document cameras for the teachers

· St. Mary Outreach, LLC for food for the poor

· West St. Mary High School for an ACT support program

· M.D. Shannon Elementary School for an accelerated reader program in the library

The cycle was open to schools (public, charter and parochial), 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organizations and churches domiciled in St. Mary Parish that proposed a project to benefit the citizens of St. Mary Parish.

The funds for the grant cycle were raised by the St. Mary Parish Foundation’s Board of Directors through a raffle in 2014 for a seven-night trip to Rome and Florence, Italy. St. Mary Parish Foundation board chair, Greg Hamer, Sr. said, "We are grateful for the community’s continued support which allows us to make these grants and fund programs which enhance our parish.”

The St. Mary Parish Foundation is an affiliate of Community Foundation of Acadiana and has a separate board of directors, specifically for the benefit of St. Mary Parish.
