 Roy and Catherine Poché to receive philanthropy award

(Lafayette, La.) Community Foundation of Acadiana (CFA) will honor Roy and Catherine Poché at its sixth annual Leaders in Philanthropy Awards Luncheon on Nov. 11 at the Cajundome Convention Center. Doors open at 11 a.m., and the program is from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Roy and Catherine have been selected to receive the 2016 Leaders in Philanthropy Award for their many contributions to St. Martin Parish.  They have actively worked for the success of the St. Rita Catholic Church fair for over 50 years. Roy has been a member of the Cursillo Ultreya spiritual group for many years.  He started the Cursillo walk from Catahoula to Prairie Ronde and has been a participant for the past 23 years.  Roy was on the Regional Pastoral Council and represented St. Rita’s church parish for the Diocese of Lafayette.  He is also a former Knights of Columbus member and an active member of the St. Rita Centennial Campaign for the Diocese of Lafayette. 

Catherine founded St. Rita’s Rosary Group and the Rosary Group for the Unborn.  She was a member of the Altar Society and the Church Cleaning Group, and she was a religion teacher.  She is a member of the church choir, serves as a lector and is a Eucharistic Minister for Church and homebound parishioners.  

The couple are among 13 individuals who will be recognized for making a positive impact in their communities through philanthropy:

  •          Evangeline Parish – Anita M. Fontenot
  •          Iberia Parish – Phil & Reneé Haney
  •          Lafayette Parish – James Devin & Ruth Moncus
  •          St. Landry Parish – Sue Soileau Brignac
  •          St. Mary Parish – Dr. Alan M. Hoberman & Dr. Mildred S. Christian (1942-2009)
  •          Vermilion Parish – N. R. Broussard

In addition to the above award recipients, CFA will present corporate awards to Acadian Companies and Chevron – Gulf of Mexico Business Unit for their outstanding philanthropy in Acadiana. Nominations for all awards were submitted by the community and CFA's past board of directors made final selections.

Luncheon seats and tables are open to the public and are now on sale. Seats are $75 each, and tables of eight are $500 each.
