Anita M. Fontenot to receive philanthropy award

(Lafayette, La.) Community Foundation of Acadiana (CFA) will honor Anita M. Fontenot at its sixth annual Leaders in Philanthropy Awards Luncheon on Nov. 11 at the Cajundome Convention Center. Doors open at 11 a.m., and the program is from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Fontenot, a native of Vidrine, will receive the 2016 Leaders in Philanthropy Award for her leadership and dedication to Evangeline Parish. Her philanthropy truly began with mission trips through the First Baptist Church of Lafayette to Africa in 2001 and El Salvador in 2003. Since then, she actively works to address challenges in Evangeline Parish that she also saw overseas such as education, poverty, unemployment and more.

She is a member of the Rotary Club in Ville Platte where she is a workshop leader in the club’s CHOICES program which teaches life skills to eighth graders. Fontenot is the general manager of Southwest Fidelity Corporation which has 12 offices located throughout Acadiana. She serves as president of Percy J. Fontenot, Inc. which encompasses Fontenot’s Hatchery and a 3,500 acre farm known as "Cazan Lake” located in Evangeline Parish.

She is a board member of the Ville Platte Chamber of Commerce, the Boys and Girls Club of Ville Platte, the Acadian Baptist Center and One Acadiana.

Fontenot is one of 13 individuals who will be recognized for making a positive impact in their communities through philanthropy:

  • Iberia Parish – Phil & Reneé Haney
  • Lafayette Parish – James Devin & Ruth Moncus
  • St. Landry Parish – Sue Soileau Brignac

  • St. Mary Parish – Dr. Alan M. Hoberman & Dr. Mildred S. Christian (1942-2009)
  • Vermilion Parish – N. R. Broussard

In addition to the above award recipients, CFA will present corporate awards to Acadian Companies and Chevron – Gulf of Mexico Business Unit for their outstanding philanthropy in Acadiana. Nominations for all awards were submitted by the community and CFA's past board of directors made final selections.

Luncheon seats and tables are open to the public and are now on sale. Seats are $75 each, and tables of eight are $500 each.
