Al Berard Memorial Music Fund Supports the Tipitina’s Music Office Cooperative in Lafayette

Lafayette, LA – The Al Berard Memorial Music Fund, a fund at Community Foundation of Acadiana (CFA), recently granted $1,500 to the Tipitina’s Foundation Inc. for the Tipitina’s Music Office Cooperative in Lafayette.

The grant will be used to upgrade equipment and computers at the facility and allow the Co-Op to offer access to different resources that it hasn’t been able to offer before. Chad Fouquier, manager of the Lafayette Music Co-Op Office, said, "We can't begin to express our gratitude enough to the Al Berard Memorial Music Fund for its contribution to the music community. Al was a great man, always eager to encourage up and coming musicians, and this is an amazing way to honor his legacy."

The Co-Op helps local musicians of all ages by providing practice space, demo recording space, workshops on a variety of topics centering around the Music Business, pro bono legal services, as well as one-on-one tutorials on a variety of topics such as copyright, business management, and recording techniques. The Co-Op welcomes anyone in the Acadiana area, as well as statewide, to become a member.

Funds for the grant were raised from the Al Berard Music Festival which was held last November at the Henry Guidry Memorial Park in Henderson, LA. Fund owner and daughter of Al Berard, Laura Huval, said, "The Al Berard Memorial Music Fund supports music education initiatives across Acadiana. It is important for us to help encourage students’ musical abilities through various organizations and initiatives.”

The Al Berard Memorial Music Fund promotes Acadiana's unique musical culture by providing instruments, master teachers and music scholarships to students of all ages. The fund honors the life of the late Cajun musician, Al Berard, who was a pillar of his community and a mentor for music lovers everywhere. His passion was to teach everyone he met about his love for music and for the Cajun/Creole culture.

The Al Berard Memorial Music Fund was established by the Berard Family to honor Al Berard’s legacy. All gifts to the fund are tax-deductible. Please make checks payable to Community Foundation of Acadiana with "Al Berard Memorial Fund” in the memo and mail to 1035 Camellia Blvd., Ste. 100, Lafayette, LA 70508.
