Arnaudville, LA – The Al Berard Memorial Music Fund, at
Community Foundation of Acadiana (CFA), recently granted $5,000 to Le Reveil du
Français to strengthen and grow the Cecilia French Immersion program. The
grant will be used in a variety of ways for the upcoming school year to fund
the following projects and initiatives for students in St. Martin Parish at
Cecilia Primary, Teche Elementary and Cecilia Junior High School.
Francaphone "French inspired” murals to enhance the schools culture and
French speaking guests and musicians to teach and entertain students
school programs by adding French literature in the classroom
Radio Jeunesse and the Vermilionville Heritage project at Cecilia Junior High
educational field trips for Francophone visits to J. Marrow Memorial Nursing
Home, Vermilionville and Festival International
Cecilia French Immersion is one of the oldest French Immersion
programs in the state of Louisiana, celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2018.
The Cecilia French Immersion program begins at the Kindergarten level and
continues through the eighth grade. The program’s goal is to ensure the Cajun,
Creole and French heritage is preserved through the continuing education for

Music Festival Coordinator and daughter of Al Berard. "We recognize the
cultural and economic impact the French language and culture has in our
state. Keeping the language alive will ensure the survival of our Cajun
and Creole Heritage. The Al Berard Memorial Music Fund at CFA supports
not only music and art education but also community projects and organizations
that promote the rich culture in Louisiana,” she said.
The Al Berard Memorial Music Fund promotes Acadiana's unique
musical culture by providing instruments, master teachers and music scholarships
to students of all ages. The fund honors the life of the late Cajun musician,
Al Berard, who was a pillar of his community and a mentor for music lovers
everywhere. His passion was to teach everyone he met about his love for music
and for the Cajun/Creole culture.
The Al Berard Memorial Music Fund was established by the Berard
Family to honor Al Berard’s legacy. All gifts to the fund are tax-deductible.
