Community Foundation of
Acadiana is proud to feature the beautiful paintings of artist, Julie Breaux. A
native of Lafayette, Julie draws inspiration from the South Louisiana culture.
She has been painting for 13 years and thinks of herself as a colorist most of
all. Julie is very passionate about painting. In her own words, "There’s
nothing like getting lost and freeing your mind while painting, then afterwards
to hear the viewer really admire the piece is so rewarding!”
Julie’s love for painting was
ignited with her interest in collecting original art after building a new home.
She was first inspired by Jackson Pollock, and was intrigued by his use of
color and technique. After experimenting with different mediums, Julie found
her niche in acrylic painting. Her artwork is a unique collaboration of
florals, still lifes and streetscapes with an occasional abstract in-between. Julie’s
appreciation for color and composition moves her to create wonderfully vibrant pieces.
Julie uses bright, bold colors with a brush and pallet knife for texture. This
combination always makes an interesting statement, often representing light in
unexpected ways. Julie’s artwork not only lifts spirits, but has also gained
fast notoriety throughout the community. Outside of Lafayette, Julie is
represented by Ariodante Art Gallery in New Orleans. Her work has been
published in magazines and newspapers, and can be seen throughout Lafayette and
New Orleans as well as in private collections both nationally and
Julie resides in Lafayette,
Louisiana with her husband Frank and two children, Danielle and Elliot.
